Stereo Microphone Setup
All of these techniques can be set up using two microphone stands, but it if possible both microphones should be setup on one stereo bar, to allow for ease of movement when choosing the optimum microphone placement,
A-B Technique (Time Difference Stereo)
2 omnidirectional condensor microphones placed parallel to each other.

X-Y Technique
2 Cardioid microphones place at 90 degrees to each other as close as possible.

NOS Technique
(Typically for miking of small group)
2 Cardiod microphones set at 90 degrees to each other, 30cm apart.

MS (Mid Side) Technique
A directional Cardiod microphone (top mic in pictures) pointed directly at the source to be recorded and ‘figure 8′ microphone (lower mic in pictures) at 90 degrees to it. This technique allows for post-recording alteration of stereo width.
